Towbars come in different types depending on your purpose but before you rush out buy a car towbar and start towing anything bigger than another car read the following rules which apply to UK licence holders.(these are legal requirements and you could be prosecuted)

If you passed a car test in the UK before 1 January 1997 you’re entitled to drive a vehicle and trailer combination up to 8.25 tonnes maximum authorized mass. You also have entitlement to drive a minibus with a trailer over 750kgs maximum authorized mass.
If you passed a car test on or after 1 January 1997 then your restricted by law to vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes maximum authorized mass towing a trailer up to 750kgs, or a vehicle and trailer combination up to 3.5 tonnes maximum authorized mass providing the maximum authorized mass of the trailer doesn’t exceed the unladen mass of the towing vehicle. If you don’t fit within this criteria then you will need to pass an additional driving test in groups B&#43E. There are many motoring schools that offer tuition for this test which is conducted by the DSA.
